You know I am one person who strongly loves his mother tongue, this point is noteworthy especially when I am someone from a place where people think that it is a pride to speak foreign (English) than to speak local. [Well, I'm myself doing here with English, but that's only to make sure those proud-to-speak-foreign friends of mine read me!]
"You seem to be a very ethical person!" is one nice way of saying to me that 'you are a struck-with-old-trends guy' I've ever heard. But quite often people do get attracted by my 'struck-with-old-trend'ness and do try to follow me. With both these I am least bothered. However, with a place to share things, why not write a post?
Now this one is triggered by one of my colleague, who in 90% admires my love for mother tongue and culture and in 10% expresses his/her (just to not jeopardize!) all-the-more admiration to foreign language and culture, saying that he/she had met a person, in our campus, who really looked like a Professor (by the way, we are college teachers) just because that person had clad in formal attire (by foreign norms!) and is speaking (well and completely in) English!
Now, that's where I was ignited. Is dressing the first and foremost thing in deciding one's true caliber and dignity? Or, let me rephrase the question, Is dressing, in accordance to foreign norms and speaking foreign language, the first and foremost thing in deciding one's true caliber and dignity?
NO! Will be my answer, (as you would be knowing just by reading me by far!) My point here is to not question the acceptance of foreign culture and language, but am more oriented in questioning the rejection of our own stuff!
I know that my ancestors led the finest life on the globe, and so I am all the more impressed by and interested in their styles and ways. And I strongly try to follow it. People do realize my caliber (and that of my ancestors), even when I am not clad in accordance to foreign norms and not tonguing English, but only after getting along with me!
Well, I would be continuing my journey as it is, without bothering about what my looks and approach makes others to think, because my job is to impress my students with knowledge and not with my attire! However, I do wish my people realize their true worth and the worth of their originality!
Thanks a lot for spending your time to read this scribbling of mine even though you could have not gain any worthy stuff from it...
This is the truth !! Well said :)
